Micromyzon akamaiJohn P. Friel
A miniature (maximum observed SL less than 16 mm) hoplomyzontine aspredinid distinguished by the following apomorphies: anterior cranial fontanelle highly reduced and posterior cranial fontanelle absent; paired foramina bordered by supracleithra, supraoccipital and Weberian apparatus highly reduced; eyes absent; premaxillae extremely reduced and toothless; limb of palatine posterior to lateral ethmoid articulation much shorter than anterior limb; lateral line ossicles hypertophied to form an armor of overlapping cresentic plates with dorsal and ventral limbs tilted anteriorly; absence of a row of large unculiferous tubercles along lateral line; postcleithral processes short, rounded ; posterior coracoid processes very short, do not extend past anterior limit of basipterygia; typical banding pigmentation pattern of other hoplomyzontines reduced.
