Adult External Characteristics
Elytra without distinct mirrors, with small silver spots. Elytra long and parallel sided, relatively wider than narrow prothorax. First protarsomere of male much larger than related species.
Flagellum of male aedeagus relatively short and thick; apical boundaries of two basins of VSP narrowly separated in left lateral view.
Comparison with Related Species
- Bembidion balli
- Bembidion foraminosum
- Bembidion striatum
This species is unlikely to be confused with any Bracteon except B. balli; see description under that species for more information.
Some Bembidion outside of Odontium (for example, B. foraminosum and B striatum) have similar body form as B. foveum, but can be distinguished by their lack of silver spots on the elytra.
Holarctic, from northeasternmost Europe east in Asia to Kamtchatka. In the Nearctic region, from Alaska east to Churchill, Manitoba, and south to central Saskatchewan.
On sandy banks of rivers. B. foveum was common near the water on the North Saskatchewan River near Paynton Ferry, Saskatchewan, as shown in the photograph below.
